I love this image so much.
I’ve seen some women who are offended by this and say it’s ridiculous that her cleavage is showing and things of that sort.
Personally, I think it’s great.
Why should we have an image of a women with her hair tied up and flexing her muscles like she’s a man? (not that that isn’t great too!) In a way it suggests that when our hair is down, our breasts are visible and we wear (GASP) lipstick, we’re somehow lesser than men? We can do it! We can be feminine and successful.
You see what I’m saying here, ladies?
You don’t have to lose your femininity. Being feminine is great. Being masculine is great. Strength is not limited to one way of being.

Here internets, have a thing I literally just finished. I will probably find lots of things wrong with it in the next 20 minutes, haha.
But this is good enough for now.

So I recently paid a visit with a friend of mine to Annelie Solis’ Sol i exhibition at Bohemia.
Her pieces are… amazing. Bold colours, but they don’t clash with each other. A mixture of media that complement each other in unexpected ways. And a refreshing perspective — not the stereotypical colonial house, or slave dancer, or landscape you see everywhere else.
It was the first time I met her in person; been a fan of her photography for a while. According to her, each piece reflects a part of herself — a bond with the Earth and nature, covered in colour and mysticism. It’s all about finding herself, or the part she wasn’t able to express during her commercial years, she said.
From the short convo we had, she seems like a wonderful person. And we were able to see a recently-finished piece she wanted to add to the collection. And it seems I’m not the only one who thinks so; almost three quarters of her pieces were sold on opening night.
If you have time, go check it out; she’s there until Thursday (June 6). I highly recommend it. And follow her as well.
